By investing 3.5 million euro, which includes also co-financing from the European Union in the amount of 50 %, JSC Tukuma Piens has developed one of the most modern curd cheese production units in the Baltic States, the equipment installed at which work using the ultrafiltration method.
“Every year we invest in the company one million euro on average. This year, which is the 100th anniversary year of the company, the said amount was increased substantially. This will enhance considerably the company’s competitiveness both on local and export markets”, believes Ints Poškus, the director of JSC „Tukuma Piens” .
The investments into a new manufacturing unit will allow the company to develop manufacturing of such new products, which has higher added value, for instance, desserts, cream cheese, salt creams. The company will also produce pressed curd cheese in a drop-type packing. The modern technologies at a new curd cheese production unit will allow producing curd cheese without using hand work thus enhancing productivity without changing the number of employees. Currently the company employs 250 employees.
At present the company’s export comprises 15 % from its turnover. In the result of made investments it is planned to increase the export up to 25% during next few years.
According to turnover JSC „Tukuma Piens” is one of the biggest milk processing companies in Latvia and it has leading positions in the segments of yoghurt, sour cream and kefir, as well as in production of ecological dairy products.
